imageA child of international teachers, Scott Squires was born in Nicosia, Cyprus and raised in the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, and the United States.

As a writer and photographer, Scott has reported extensively from Latin America, most recently for Reuters News in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and was the recipient of the 2018 Emmanuel R. Freedman Award from the Overseas Press Club of America Foundation.

Scott holds a Master’s Degree in Global Policy Studies from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin, where he specialized in international human rights and development. He also holds Master’s and Bachelor’s Degrees in Journalism, also from UT, specializing in international reporting and photojournalism.

As a graduate student at UT, Scott was a 2016-2017 Graduate Fellow for the Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice, and worked as a Graduate Advocate for the UT Law School’s Human Rights Clinic. As an undergraduate, he worked for the Daily Texan and the National Press Photographer’s Association.

Scott’s award winning photography has been featured in Texas Monthly, Vice Mexico and other publications. He has also reported for Free Press Houston and the Oaxaca Times, and has worked as a page designer and copy editor at Gatehouse Media in Austin, Texas.

In his free time, Scott travels throughout Latin America looking for visually arresting stories, gripping narratives, and new experiences.
